Dr. John Pairmore of Pairmore & Young: Synergy Chiropractic

A Lifelong Alaskan

Anchorage has been home to Dr. John Pairmore since he was 10, when his family relocated to Elmendorf Air Force Base. Today, he’s co-owner of Pairmore & Young: Synergy Chiropractic, with more than two decades in practice and deep roots in the community.

His own road into chiropractic started with a string of injuries, including whiplash and, later, a serious lower back injury at work. After a Gonstead chiropractor helped him, the experience stayed with John. He began picturing himself doing the same kind of work for others. “Chiropractic just made all the difference in the world.”

Finding His Calling

That experience eventually led John to Palmer College of Chiropractic. While there, he participated in the Clinic Abroad Program in Bolivia, an experience that strengthened his belief in chiropractic and the difference it could make in people’s lives. He graduated in 2002, ready to begin his own career in the profession.

What he enjoys most hasn’t changed much since then. It’s seeing a patient come in struggling and watching the change as they begin feeling better. He notices it not only in how people move, but in their mood and personality once they’re no longer fighting through discomfort every day.

An Evolving, Precise Approach

John draws on several chiropractic approaches in practice. His professional interests include the Gonstead Technique and Cox Flexion Distraction technique, in which he is certified, and he is board certified in Atlas Orthogonal. He has also been active in the Alaska Chiropractic Society, spending about a decade on its executive board while serving as treasurer.

Over the years, John has seen technology create new opportunities for greater precision in chiropractic care. That includes newer adjusting tables such as Cox tables, along with a cone beam CT scanner the practice plans to add. Once installed and operating, the scanner will be used in place of standard upper-neck X-rays to obtain precise measurements to guide Atlas Orthogonal adjustments.

More than two decades into practice, advances like these continue to give John new ways to refine the care he provides.

Life Outside the Office

When he’s not seeing patients, John enjoys getting outdoors and fishing. He and his wife, Sengthiene, raised three children together. Their kids have since grown up and moved to the Lower 48, but Anchorage remains home for John.
