Meet Dr. Dennis Young, DC, BCAO

A Family Legacy in Chiropractic

Dr. Dennis Young of Pairmore & Young: Synergy ChiropracticDr. Dennis Young didn’t stumble into chiropractic. He grew up watching it happen at home, with his mother, father, aunt, and uncle all in practice. He saw firsthand what their care could do for people, and that made the decision easy. In 1980 he graduated from the original Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, the same school his family had trained at before him.

Advanced Training and Techniques

More than 45 years into practice, Dr. Young still treats his own education as unfinished. Having watched chiropractic evolve alongside remarkable advances in imaging and neuroscience, he continues to embrace new knowledge and technology that helps him better understand how the body functions and how to care for his patients.

He’s certified and trained as an instructor in the Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic Program, and he holds certification in Cox Flexion Distraction Technique for both the lumbar and cervical spine. Activator Methods® and Gonstead technique round out his approach, adjusted to whatever a given patient actually needs.

Pairmore & Young: Synergy Chiropractic is also getting ready to bring a cone beam CT scanner into the clinic. It’s a piece of equipment Dr. Young is genuinely excited about, one that will sharpen how precisely the team can measure the upper cervical spine while cutting patients’ radiation exposure by roughly half.

A New Chapter in Alaska

Dr. Young spent 35 years practicing in the upstate of South Carolina. Then, in 2012, a visit to Alaska changed the direction of his life. He still remembers arriving in Anchorage for the first time:

I felt like I was landing at home.”

A year later, he co-founded Pairmore & Young: Synergy Chiropractic with Dr. John Pairmore, and our city has been home ever since.

Serving the Local Community

Alaska’s outdoor, hands-on culture brings a level of injury Dr. Young hadn’t encountered anywhere else in his career, from long, ice-heavy winters to the physical toll of work and recreation across the state. Many patients come to him after their initial injury has already been treated elsewhere, looking for answers when they’re still dealing with lingering pain or restricted movement. He’s found real meaning in caring for a community that relies on local providers to help them get back to living life fully.

What continues to inspire him most is seeing how the body can respond when it’s functioning at its best. As he puts it:

It’s a humbling thing to watch the response a human being can make… whenever they get realigned.”

For patients traveling long distances to reach the clinic, Dr. Young and his team have also built take-home rehabilitation programs for the neck and lower back, checking in by phone or video call to help patients stay on track between visits.

Life Outside the Clinic

Off the clock, Dr. Young hunts, fishes, snowshoes, cross-country skis, and bikes. Family fills out the rest of his life in Anchorage. He has five daughters and five sons-in-law, with three daughters and soon four grandchildren living locally, and two daughters and four grandchildren in Florida.
